About Us

Bethel Baptist Temple was pioneered in 1977 by Pastor Larry Cornett, his wife Jeanne, their children, and a group of families from the Cincinnati area.

During its first years the church met in a store-front building in St. Bernard, OH. The congregation met there for 7 years until the Lord opened the door to build a new place of worship in Sycamore Township. We dedicated our new building in 1984.

With this move came new growth. Through much prayer and fasting, the leadership began to take steps of faith which resulted in many changes from the “traditions of men.”

Among these was a strong emphasis on the men as the spiritual leaders of their home, changing our church choir and music ministry, adhering to Christ-honoring music, separating from a traditional youth group, establishing a standard for courtship amongst our youth, and pursuing a debt-free policy in all areas of purchasing and transactions.

As a result, God’s sovereignty was revealed through His faithful provision of new direction in each of these areas.

We saw a need to establish the men as the spiritual heads of their families through focused training on responsibilities as leaders in their home, church, and community—to cherish their wife as Christ cherishes the church. The women are encouraged to honor their husbands and exemplify the qualities of Proverbs 31.

The traditional choir took new direction to allow more people to participate in a variety of small musical and choral ensembles focusing on the spirit of music and the purity of worship. We also have a weekly church orchestra from beginners to professional musicians.

The desire for our music selections is to offer a spirit of worship that does not conform to the world.

The traditional youth group was replaced with new training to turn the hearts of the children to the parents and the hearts of the parents to their children. The result was to build relationships and interaction by bringing families together and not separating the youth from the adults. This has given our youth the freedom to enjoy interactive opportunities without the distraction of impressing one another or trying to fit into a false mold.

Our church encourages the unique concept of courtship as an alternative to dating. Courtship involves waiting on God’s timing to reveal the right life-partner. Young people who are committed to waiting on God’s best can then use their single years to focus on serving the Lord and others. We have seen the Lord use this method to bring together many happily married couples.

Throughout the years God has led many home schooling families to Bethel. We seek to offer encouragement and provide a positive support system for those who have made this choice.

During these 30 years of ministry, the Lord has brought together a body of believers none could have imagined. People from 3 states and over 15 counties, come to make up our congregation.

Pastor Cornett preaches and teaches practical messages on how to be equipped to live a victorious Christian life and build genuine relationships with the Lord Jesus Christ and others. His desire is to strengthen families and individuals to minister Christ in the community around them.

We invite you to come and be a part of our church family.

What We Believe

Scripture

We believe the Bible is the whole, verbally-inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God II Peter 1:22; II Timothy 3:16.

We use and prefer the KJV at Behel Baptist Temple.

God, Himself

We believe in the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ John 10:33; in His Virgin Birth Isa. 7:14; Matt. 1:23; Luke 1:35; in His sinless life Heb.4:15; 7:25; in His miracles John 2:11; in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood Eph. 1:7; Col. 1:14 ; in His bodily resurrection John 11:25; in His ascension to the right hand of the Father Acts 1:11; and in His personal, imminent, premillennial return in power and glory Rev. 19:11-16.

We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit Gen. 1:1; John 10:30; John 4:24.

Man’s Sin Nature

We believe that all men are sinful by nature and, as such, at enmity with God, therefore, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential to their salvation Rom. 3:19.

Salvation By Grace Through Faith

We believe that men are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ and that only by God’s grace and through faith alone are we saved Acts 13:33-39.

Satan, Hell

We believe that Satan is a person and that hell is a place of eternal conscious punishment of all unsaved Job 1:6-7; Matt. 25:46; Rev. 20:14-15.

Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts of sin, makes believers children of God through the new birth, assuring them of heaven, and by His indwelling enables Christians to live a Godly life John 16:8; 1 Cor. 3:16; 1 Cor 12:13.

Eternal Security

We believe in the eternal security of the believer John 10:28-29.

Purpose of the Local Church

We believe that the local church is composed of born again, immersed believers, voluntarily united together for the purpose of the worship of God, the instruction and fellowship of believers, and the proclamation of the Gospel of Christ throughout the world Acts 2:41-42; Matt. 28:19-20.

Speaking in Tongues

We believe that tongues ceased after the completion of the New Testament. There is no reliable evidence today of the miraculous gift of speaking in tongues, therefore we do not support the modern charismatic movement 1 Cor. 13:8; 2 Pet. 1:19; Eph 2:20; Heb. 2:4. We believe in the pre-tribulation rapture of the Church and the pre-millennial return of Christ 1 Thess. 4:17; Mark 13:24-26; Rev. 20:4.

Bethel Distinctives

We believe that our distinctives are scripturally sound. They include: the Bible as the supreme authority in all matters of faith and practice 2 Tim. 3:16; the Lordship of Jesus Christ Acts 2:36; 1 Cor. 12:3; Col. 1:17-18; the priesthood of all believers 1 Pet. 2:5; a regenerate church membership Acts 2:41-42; the symbolic ordinances of Believer’s Baptism (immersion) and the Lord’s Supper Acts 8:36-39; Rom. 6:3-5; 1 Cor. 11:23-32; the autonomy of the local church Eph 1:22-23; I Timothy 3:1-15; wide program of missionary endeavor in obedience to the final command of our Lord Acts 1:8; Matt. 28:19-20.

Bethel Mission & Vision Statement

The mission of this church shall be to preach and teach the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, and to promote fellowship among God’s people of like precious faith, for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, and for the edifying of the body of Christ. Ephesians 4:12

Our vision is to glorify the Lord by obeying His Word in the developing of individuals who consistently demonstrate the character of Jesus Christ in their relationships with God and others.

Basic Church Goals

To guide each individual to put his full faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and to love Him with all his heart, soul, mind, and strength. Romans 10:9

To turn the heart of every father toward his sons and daughters in order to teach them Scriptural principles on how to be successful persons, partners, and parents. Malachi 4:6

To demonstrate our love for the Lord and our loyalty to each other by giving only a good report of each other unless we follow Matthew 18 in the spirit of restoring rather than exposing. Galatians 6:1

To explain and apply God’s principles of finances in the church and in each family so that God can provide specific direction and illustrate His supernatural power. Malachi 3:10; Luke 16:11, 12

To motivate women to a life of godliness and faithfulness by providing meaningful ministries and financial assistance for them when they are older and without husband or relatives who can support them. 1 Timothy 5
