Her name was Foofer

My father used to have a sheep by the name of Foofer. I suppose that’s how you would spell it. I don’t think we ever had opportunity to write it down. Of all the flock, Foofer was everyone’s favorite. She was always so gentle and easy to take care of.

Sheep

You could ride her and pet her and she was so much fun to be around. One unique thing about her was that when she had lambs she would have triplets. Three little black-faced bundles of wool. She was certainly Dad’s most valuable member of the flock.

As a preacher I see so many things as a spiritual analogy.

Foofer not only helped multiply the flock, but she had such a gentle and good nature about her. As we tell others about Jesus let’s do it in a way like our Lord would. He says about Himself, “for I am meek and lowly in heart.”

It has been such a blessing to watch you serve the Lord in so many ways. Just humbly and faithfully ministering for Him.

Through personal soul winning, Child Evangelism, Several Nursing Homes, Cottage Prayer Meetings, Bible studies, Shepherd Group meetings, City Gospel Rescue Mission, Samaritan’s Purse, National Day of Prayer in Sycamore Township, American Heritage Girls passing out tracts, Hurricane relief ministry, Wheat Ridge Church in Adams County, Way of the Master soul winning, Joni Erickson Tadda Handicap Ministry Camp, Miracle Mountain Ranch, Sagrada Scholorship Bible Camp, for children who’s parents are incarcerated. Plus mission trips to China, Panama, West Virginia, and Nicole Simpson now ministering in Taiwan, and Tracy Purtell going to Africa this winter. We are looking forward to our second Seedline Ministry project this year of putting together thousands of Bibles to be distributed by our missionaries. And oh, what a blessing VBS was this year with even two little Muslim children trusting Christ as their Savior.

And thank you so much for supporting over sixteen great missionaries this year. You share in the souls that are saved all around the world.

As we look forward to this coming year I know that we all have a desire to do more for the Lord. Let’s start planning and saving right now for ministry opportunities in 2007.

And may we learn from “good ole Foofer” to be a blessing as a humble and faithful servant of the Good Shepherd.

  1. And may we continue to learn from your example, to be a blessing as a humble and faithful servant of our Lord. Thank you for your leadership, teaching, and for showing us how to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen

  2. Dear Pastor,
Thanks for sharing that! It’s so easy to just get caught up in what one is doing. The “good deeds” and forget the real reason for it all. Christ. It’s really easy to think I’m not really doing much of anything over here. All I’m doing is teaching English. I don’t get to witness, I can’t just share about God with my teachers or students. It’s so easy to get discouraged by that. This past week has been amazing for me. I’m not exactly sure what happened or when it happened, but something changed. And I realized that yes I’m just teaching English. But the people here know I’m a Christian. They don’t even have to ask they can see it. They know when I am being a faithful and humble servant of the Lord’s and when I’m not. They watch me and even if I never get to share with my words about Christ I can certainly share with my actions Christ. A seed has been planted. And maybe that’s all God wanted me to do. Maybe He has someone else who is going to come along and water the seed and see the results. But my being a faithful and humble servant doing the small seemingly not so important things is just as important as being able to verbally share the Gospel and see people come to Christ. Thank you for what an example and encouragement you are to me. To keep going even when it gets tough. =)
