Six Commitments Necessary for Effective Service
All sincere Christians desire to step up to higher ground in their Christian walk and become more effective servants of Jesus Christ. But it does not come without faith, hard work and necessary commitments in your life. The Christian walk is all about change, putting off the old man and putting on the new. If we truly desire to love the LORD with all our hearts, souls, minds, and strength, and to be used in His service, here are six necessary commitments that the Bible teaches must be made in our lives
Give up personal rights. I Corinthians 9:4 and 12 say, “Have we not power to eat and drink?…If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things less we should hinder the gospel of Christ.”
Become their servant. I Corinthians 9: 19-22 says, “For though I be free form all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; to them that are without the law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are wihtout law. To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men that I might by all means save some.”
Become all things to all men. I Corinthians 9:22, “To the weak become I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.”
Develop self-control. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, ” Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an uncorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”
The attitude of a debtor to people. Romans 1:14-15, “I am a debtor to both Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are in Rome also.”
Be available to be used. As Christ always served others, we should constantly look for opportunities to serve. Be ready! Phil 2:7, But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

Dear Pastor.
what does it mean to be all things to all men??

Without condemning it is probable that 90%
of “Christian pastors” when giving such a Title of “Effective Service” “Commitments” would have proceeded with a checklist of “Outward Proofs” … The only problem is that outward “commitments” can be done in the Flesh.
You spoke of those things taught in the Scripture involving the heart attitude of a man that can only be done in the Spirit… and when such is the case the “outward proofs” will always be there and “by their fruits” you shall know them.
May God help us by His Spirit to know how to thus become Greater servants and in so doing become Great -
to God’s glory and for Christ’s sake.
God bless.
