Nichole,

This is rather late coming, but I think Scripturally it wouldn't be wise for the girl to stay with the guy. Paul addressed exactly your question in 1 Corinthians 7, and he says that it's cool to stay with the other person, except that he's talking about if someone is married. Not just dating. Since dating is usually a precursor to marriage (or at least it should be), to enter or continue in a relationship knowing the other person is not a Christian is not just unwise, but disobedient.

Does this mean a girl can't pursue a serious relationship with such a guy? Until he becomes a Christian, yes. The last several verses of 2 Corinthians 6 have a lot to say on the subject as well. Well worth reading...

It's good to ask such questions. E-mail us if you have more.

scott, you have no idea how much that really helps me. i have always looked at it from a very different point of view. but this way actually makes sence, i wish it was all that easy but i am growing in the lord, and have been praying about this matter alot lately. The part about "girl power" was also really encouraging. thank you soo much!

That was a really good post Scott. That was good reminder for me. One thing that stood out, something that God has been teaching me lately, is the idea behind courtship is not just for keeping your heart for marriage, but for life in general. I have to be completely focused on God in every area of my life before I am truly "sold out for Christ." Thanks for the reminder. :-)

Good thoughts Scott... it is indeed important to keep our focus on Christ and His plan for our life instead of letting a someone of the opposite gender control our life. It's so easy for a young person to set their hopes on another and force themselves to grow in to what they think that person needs in a spouse. How much sweeter to allow Christ to mold your future spouse and bring him/her to you in His timing. We can testify it's pretty awesome... :-)

Thanks Scott, we love you!

Those are great words, Scott. It is so good to remember that we always need to be guarding our hearts in our friendships. The whole idea of courtship requires trust in God; that He will guide us through life.

Thanks for sharing.
